FLEXnCONFU

STRUCTURE

The FLEXnCONFU project is divided in 9 Work Packages

WP 1 - Scenario analysis and requirements definition
This Work Package aims at defining the technical specifications and requirements for FLEXnCONFU layouts, analyzing predicted technical, environmental and economic impacts through a participatory approach by involving gas turbines manufacturers and energy utilities, while sub-systems specifications and the overall balance of plant will be outlined and agreed among technology manufacturers.
WP 2 - Combustion system compatibility with non-conventional fuels
This Work Package seeks to numerically and experimentally study the use of ammonia and hydrogen/nitrogenated mixtures co-fired with natural gas for their use in large GT combustion systems. Understanding of these concepts will enable to improve commercial combustion systems, aiming at the reduction of unwanted emissions (NOx and CO) with an increase of stability.
WP 3 - Integrated plant: balance of plant innovations, control and dynamics
This Work Package aims at developing innovative dynamic modelling of both Power to Ammonia and Power to Hydrogen layouts in order to guarantee the interaction between the sub-components.
WP 4 - Advanced solutions for Power to Ammonia
The Work Package 4 aims at developing an innovative ammonia reactor for small-scale application, re-designing and re-adapting of the whole mGT combustion system for NH3 combustion, developing and implementing of a control system and performing a test campaign for elaboration of data, findings and operational experience.
WP 5 - TRL 7: Integration and demonstration
The objectives of this Work Package are to test in a real operative plant the integration of the P2H2P concept, to increase CCGT power plant flexibility by the P2H2P concept, to explore the energy storage concept through H2 carrier and to determine the benefits in terms of wear-and-tear reduction, efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions.
WP 6 - Scale-up and replicability
The objectives of the Work Package 6 are to upscale the FLEXnCONFU concept to a full scale as-fired CC system in order to promote the FLEXnCONFU solution among industrial and energy stakeholders (WP8), to evaluate the potential of FLEXnCONFU solutions in virtual demo sites, to analyze cross-cutting solutions of the non-conventional fuels and to evaluate the regulatory and non-technological evidences to unlock the potential of FLEXnCONFU concepts.
WP 7 - FLEXnCONFU impacts and benchmarking
This Work Package aims at evaluating the impacts of FLEXnCONFU solutions from the economical, environmental and societal point of view and evaluate the benefits in terms of flexibility increase respect to other flexibility assets.
WP 8 - Dissemination, communication and exploitation
The main goal of this Work Package is to conduct targeted, effective and high impact dissemination and communication activities. This will be achieved by disseminating project result to relevant stakeholders and regulatory bodies, promoting FLEXnCONFU project and its benefits at international level to the largest possible audience and consolidating synergies with other H2020 funded projects.
WP 9 - Project Coordination and Management
This Work Package aims at performing overall project government and establishing and maintaining a communication and controlling infrastructure.
